Anything else you need to know about being a student here at Hogwarts. I reccomend all students, or soon to be students to give this a look over.
Remember, these are the rules of the school, they can be broken but your character could face detention, expulsion or anything else depending on what it is he or she did.
rules of hogwarts
These are school rules, breaking these rules can result in a detention, loss of house points, or worse.
Dress code: 1. While classes are in session, the school uniform must be worn at all times. The jumper and pointed hat are optional. No modifications to the uniform are allowed. 2. Casual attire may be worn only on weekends. 3. Skirts may not be worn shorter than one inch above the knee; heels no higher than 1 1/2 inches.
Curfew: Students are restricted to their house common rooms and dormitories between 9pm and 6am, unless accompanied by a prefect or staff member.
Conduct: 1. First-year students are not allowed to have broomsticks. 2. Students are allowed to have an owl, a cat, or a toad, but this rule doesn't seem to be strictly enforced - Percy and Ron Weasley had Scabbers, a rat, and Lee Jordan had a giant tarantula. 3. Students cannot enter the Forbidden Forest, except for detentions with Hagrid or the occasional Care of Magical Creatures lesson. 4. Students cannot use magic in the corridors between classes. 5. Fighting is against school rules. 6. Students need a slip signed by teacher to take out books of the Restricted Section in the library. 7. Students must be 17 years old and have a license to Apparate. But you can not apparate in the grounds or castle of Hogwarts anyway. 8. Never use any of the three unforgivable curses. Any use of these will earn you an expulsion from Hogwarts, and a lifetime in Azkaban. 9. Boys not allowed in girls' dormitories; according to Hogwarts, A History, the founders believed that girls are more trustworthy than boys. If boys even tried to get in the stairwell would turn into a slide, so don't try it. 10. No food in the library. 11. Always be respectful to your teachers 12. The potion Felix Felicis is a banned substance in sporting events, examinations, and elections. 13. Stealing is not allowed.
Forbidden Items: 1. Alcoholic beverages stronger than Butterbeer 2. Tobacco Products 3. Any potion not sanctioned by a Professor or Mediperson 4. Magical mischief items. A full list of banned items is available in Mr Filch's office for those who wish to view it. 5. All Weasleys Wizard Wheezes products 6. Dark Objects
Hogsmeade Village: 1. Students may not leave Hogwarts grounds during the school year unless accompanied by a professor or during designated Hogsmeade weekends. 2. Students in third year or higher may visit the village on designated Hogsmeade weekends if they a provide a permission slip signed by their parents or guardian. 3. As representatives of the school, students are reminded to behave appropriately in Hogsmeade. The privilege of visiting the village may be revoked for any reason.
During the Holidays: Students will be reminded that due to the Decree on the Restriction of Underage Magic, it is illegal for any wizard or witch below the age of seventeen to perform magic outside Hogwarts grounds. Students who break this law may face expulsion

punishment for misconduct
Students can be punished for misbehavior at Hogwarts in several ways:
Detention – For serious rule-breaking, a teacher can require the student to serve a detention with him/her or another teacher. These detentions have ranged from writing lines to venturing into the Forbidden Forest with the game-keeper late at night. Most of the teachers have asked misbehaving students to perform unpleasant tasks during detentions.
Sent to their Head of House – Students who misbehave in class can be sent straight to their Head of House. This can result in a warning or a detention.
Deduct house points – The headmaster, prefects, Heads of House, and teachers can deduct house points from students who have broken rules. The house points system at Hogwarts represents a classic example of rule enforcement through peer pressure. In the annual inter-house competition, students of each house earn points for good behavior and lose points for rule-breaking. Thus, there is a lot of peer pressure not to lose points for their House.
Expulsion - Only the head of house, or headmaster can decide to expel a student. You must have done something really bad to get expelled.
In the past, students at Hogwarts were subject to corporal punishment and were whipped, beaten, suspended by chains from the ceiling, or locked in dungeons.
